Meet the Family
CKS operates six pubs and a cafe in the Hertfordshire area (as well as catering for weddings) so wherever you find yourself accross the county, there’s someone near by where you can guarentee good food, relaxing surroundings and maybe even a hotel room…
We’d love to see you at one of our other pubs, so check out all of our places below.
The Cowper Arms
The Cowper Arms is the pub that started the family. In a great location in the quiet village of Digswell, right next to the station. The Cowper Arms is a destination for people in the neighbouring towns and villages to travel to for food and also a popular pub for the locals of the village. The specials menus change daily with a huge selection of additional items inspired by the chef’s international travels. With a weekly pub quiz and a weekly open mic music night. Jo and Attila welcome everyone to sit by the fire and enjoy proper pub food.
31 Station Road
The Baker Arms
Located in Bayford village, just outside of Hertford, this former row of farm cottages is now a cosy pub with five comfortable hotel rooms above it. Perfect if you know anyone travelling to the Hertford area. The Baker also boasts beautiful beer gardens, a childrens play area, a weekly curry night and regular quiz nights. The pub is managed by Martin, and his wife and son: Beverley and Scott, run the kitchen, making this a traditional family run local pub with hands-on service and the personal touch. Just a 10 minute drive from Hertford and a short walk from the train station.
9 Ashendene Road
The Hoops Inn
Nestled in a little patch of England’s green and plesant land you’ll find the Hoops Inn in the picturesque hamlet of Perry Green, not far from Much Hadham. The area is famous for as the home of sculptor and artist Henry Moore and the Hoops Inn is just across the road from the Henry Moore Studio & Gardens, which are well worth a visit in the summer months. The traditional wooden beamed pub dates back to 1834, but the interior has undergone a refurbishment recently which keeps the character but brings the place up-to-date. Alastair is the manager here and there’s always a smile and joke on his face and a bow-tie around his neck.
The White Horse
Isolated from the noise and stress of the town centre, The White Horse boasts a huge beer garden where you can enjoy a gin beside the pond in the summer or a fireside pint of ale in the winter. Throughout the summer we serve BBQs and cocktails in the garden – whenever the weather permits – and keep a well stocked gin bar with seasonal variations throughout the year and new flavours to experiment. Resident mixologist and manager Arek can inform, educate and entertain on all of the gins and hosts regular tasting evenings. There’s also live music throughout the summer, a monthly pub quiz for Macmillan Cancer Support and regular Soul Sanctuary DJ nights. With many nooks and crannies offering a secluded, intimate dining experience.
1 White Horse Lane
The Orange Tree
Just a ten minute walk from Sawbridgeworth town centre, and the train station. The Orange Tree is a beacon for fine dining in a delightful corner of the English countryside. This small and homely building is something of a traditional pub with original features including an open fireplace. With a spacious beer garden and a new extension coming soon, there’s plenty of space to enjoy our thoroughly modern pub classics menu.
166 West Road
Take a seat over-looking glorious lakeside views. Straddling the border between Hertfordshire and North London, this spacious, open pub has a lakeside, fishing theme. The Fishery is famed locally for it’s good food, large beer garden and the legendary Ginstitution. Stocking around 30 gins at any one time, from beloved classics to new tastes and left-of-feild choices. Perhaps you’ll find a new favourite, or a try a cocktail.
Friends of the Family
Just a few of the good people that we are proud to partner and work with
We work with the local Hertford Brewery in some capacity with all of our pubs. Some are tennancy arrangements, others Pub Operators Agreements with the Brewery.
We proudly stock all of their classic ales and their new Rivertown brewing range.
Henry Moore Studios & Gardens
Located right next door to the Hoops Inn, we work closely with the Henry Moore foundation to entertain visitors to Perry Green. As well as the Hoops Inn, we also run the cafe on the grounds of the Henry Moore Studios and Gardens and are the recommended caterer for weddings in their venue.
Useless Pub Quiz
Dan started writing and presenting the weekly pub quiz at the Cowper Arms on Easter Sunday 2014. He now has over three years worth of weekly quizzes and hosts monthly quiz nights at our other pubs. Now he’s available for hire, should you need a pub quiz.
